Jorudan
A concept redesign of the Jorudan landing website.
Overview
I set out to redesign the landing page of the popular Jorudan website.
Jorudan is a route finder service that is used to search for train and bus times to and from any station in Japan. As the application is one of the most used and widely known in Japan, the website is not as up to date to its counterpart. I decided to redesign the landing page and try to discover areas in which it could be improved.
Current layout
I chose Jorudan in particular as I noticed on the website, there was an English language option. However, upon clicking on it, I was redirected to a separate English language page instead of using the original. I speculate that the company perhaps wanted to accomodate to English language speakers and this feature was a later add-on. Furthermore, like other major Japanese companies, Jorudan presented a vast array of information and services
at one time. Again, I can only imagine that perhaps they wanted to present the user the option to utilize their entire service options. Where it lacks I felt was the execution of a journey, and in turn made the landing page a little overwhelming upon first visit.
Redesigned version
I decided to focus on the three areas as discovered above. Namely; the clickable options / news updates and repetitive icons.
Considering that perhaps Jorudan may wish to have more than one link for a service on the same page, I upheld this, although more subtly by making the icons and information on the top header be clickable to the same location.
Alternative landing page
On this version, I thought keeping an even more simpler landing might be a possibility. The user can quickly enter the departure
and destination locations straight away and see the results. Those wishing to see more information can simple click ‘Home’
to open the full range of services available which will lead to the redesigned page above. As an additional feature, the background photo is one that changes every hour and are user submitted. This is hoping that
Jorudan can connect further with it’s users and bring more personality to the website, encouraging long-term interaction.
I may continue to further analyse Jorudan as I receive feedback and educate myself further with the company.
